the Pine vs. the Sequoia

If you are anywhere near me in age then you too are a product of what I will call the “Instant” generation. As a generation we have grown up with everything ready and at our disposal in an instant; instant messaging, instant meals, instant delivery… everything ready at the moment we want it, and because of this as a generation we suffer from “Instant Gratification”.

Symptoms of “Instant Gratification” include, but are not limited to:
· Lack of patience
· Lack of foresight
· Lack of loyalty
· Easily frustrated, etc.
And although instant gratification feels wonderful in that moment, we continue on in our ways much to the future detriment of ourselves. We have lost the joy of sewing the seeds and watching a small sapling grow into a giant Sequoia. No one wants to dig in the dirt and get their hands dirty to even plant the seed and rather than waiting years for what will eventually become the marvelous Sequoia, we would rather have an everyday backyard Pine instantly instead. Some aren’t even aware that they could grow a Sequoia – the everyday Pine is all they know.

It isn’t until that moment where we plant that seed and give up on it thinking it was never going to grow only to return later in our travels to that spot to find General Sherman (Worlds Largest Sequoia Tree) before us where we forgot we had planted the seed, that we realize the beauty of long-term investment. We have become so accustomed to putting in little work and having things immediately that many of us don’t know the worth of putting in work on the “ground level” in hopes to reap the benefits of our labor further down the line. Those who put in little work for immediate return are stuck continuing that never-ending cycle of little work, little return. Accomplishing great things takes great time, but once you have reached that goal your return will be far greater than you could imagine and now for that same little work you put in your return will be tri-fold, all because of initial hard work and patience.

The Idiot Gear

They always say if you go looking for something you will find it… and promise if you test the theory it will continue hold true for you. But the true test is to fight your human nature and the curiosity that is innate and be strong enough to leave things as they are without ever wondering what it is you would have found had you not gone looking; and if you’re not strong enough to fight your instinct then pray your strong enough to deal with your findings.
Dr. Walter Bishop
Dr. Walter Bishop* (a character from Fringe – not a real doctor) was explaining to a group of children a similar theory. He stated that imagine as a child you believe that there is something hiding beneath your bed. Now as long as you remain in your bed grasping your covers as a security blanket you remain safe from what ever lies underneath. It is not until that crucial moment where you must know what lies hidden that danger begins to present itself. Up until that moment you were safe, in bed, under your blanket with only the day ahead to worry about, but instead of settling for this peace, you allow yourself to worry about what is hiding under the bed. Now of course you could look and find that you were imagining everything and there was truly nothing hidden, but if this were the stronger possibility you would have never been concerned in the first place. The greater likelihood is that you look underneath to reveal a Monster that then leaps from under the bed and consumes you whole. Now you lie in the belly of a beast wishing that you had just remained in the bed under your security blanket, because had you not gone looking for monsters, you wouldn’t have found monsters.
Monster under the Bed
Thanks to incredible storyteller and hip-hop artist Louis Logic, I affectionately call this symptom “The Idiot Gear.” The idiot gear is when you don’t want to know something, but you just have to know, even though you are aware that acquiring the knowledge will probably be to the detriment of you. Now having been consumed by a monster before, you think I would have learned to not go looking for monsters again, but that idiot gear always tends to get the best of me. Now in my years I have found a solution to the idiot gear, but its easier said than done – the simple solution is to have faith and trust… but if your anyone who has been through anything ever, you know that having faith and trust is a lot easier said than done, but if you can… I encourage everyone to do so – if not have a weapon when you go hunting for monsters so that when you do find them you can at least battle it to the death!

WingTown Cafe Oakland

Good Day World... It has been a minute since we have made a post since the launch of "The Homie Julian". We hoped you enjoyed it - we are working hard to bring you the next thing from Room 050, but until then Room 050 would like to take the time to promote things that those close to us have been working on.

Not too long ago Room 050 took a road trip North from Los Angeles to visit a friend in the Bay Area for his birthday. Upon our arrival we filled the night with drinks and a few games of billiards.

As we concluded our trip we decided to make a last stop at his newly opened Hot Wing Restaurant, "Wing Town Cafe" in East Oakland and enjoyed some of the best wings we have had. At his store they have a signature sauce that they have affectionately called "OOH WEE!" and since our departure I have honestly been thinking about driving back up to the Bay just to get some more. For all those in the Bay, I encourage you to make a visit to Wing Town Cafe @ 1462 High ST., Oakland, CA 94601

Koontastic Voyage, Vol. 1

For those still wondering what it is we do here at Room 050, well quite simply the best answer is… HAVE FUN! We just try to have our fun in a slightly different; more productive, creative (and slanderous) manner than some others, and it’s been that way for years.

What started off as a typically unproductive day years ago back at Morehouse, Room 050 dug a little deeper and struck comedic gold, which we affectionately call “the Koontastic Voyage, Vol. 1”. With nothing but a microphone in a dorm room, this day would bring about the origins of a Room 050 classic and everyone’s favorite comic MC/singer/songwriter – Jackie Salvatore.

Room 050's own... Jackie Salvatore
Stuck in the Morehouse Suites, Room 050 took a microphone and a dream, and turned it into one of the most entertaining and amusing (well at least to us – you make your own judgments) bodies of work to date. With no real recording software, we were forced to play the track on the computer speakers in the background so that the mic would pick it up along with the lyrics (When you listen to the songs, this is so blatantly obvious – but it adds to the humor and the authenticity of it).  After its completion several members even took it to the road – dressed as Jackie Salvatore and the gang, performing at a local nightspot.

Inspired by the events and surroundings of the Atlanta University Center and things that happened in and around Room 050 – We bring you the “Koontasic Voyage, Vol. 1” [2004]

Welcome...

First, I would like to thank you for visiting the official blog of Room 050 productions. We have been working diligently to bring you quality content to make you laugh, think and maybe even cry.

What is Room 050 Productions?
Room 050 Productions is an internet based media company started by a group of friends in Los Angeles, California. Our goal is to consistently provide quality media and informative content. The current primary focus of Room 050 is comedic short films, but we do much more than just comedy. Our resident fashion guru, Seth Brundle, has consistently been teaching the art of “thrifting” through the use of his own blog SethBrundle.com for the past few years, and 3D design artist, STAR, has been providing 3D design tutorials through his blog Star3D Art.

Who is Room 050?
Room 050 is a collection of friends from all different walks of life that through some twist of fate have assembled in the city of Los Angeles and connected to bring you what will be the best enteratinment to be found on the web today. The members of Room 050 have come together, each with their own set of personal skills, to not only entertain, but to educate and motivate. Whether your interest lie in music, film, comedy, fashion, graphic art and design, food or whatever it may be… the members of Room 050 have you covered!

The Room 050 Story…
The Room 050 origins date back to the year 2004 in Atlanta, Georgia. After having met in their freshman dorm, B.R. Brazeal, and befriending each other at Morehouse College, the four founding members, ready to get out of the dorms but not ready to forfeit the luxury of being on campus, decided to move into the Morehouse Suites adjacent to campus. Fed up with their previous roommates and not willing to take a chance with the dorm roulette, the members decided to room with each other to prevent having to deal with any undesired roommates. The four were placed into a four bedroom suite, Room 050, located in the Morehouse Suites West Building, basement level.

Throughout the year, living in close quarters, the four became great friends, developing a bond and a brotherhood that has lasted throughout the years. They began to identify themselves as Room 050, and very proudly represented as such. The year was filled with great times and stories for the ages, including the making of the comedy album jokingly titled "Koontastic Voyage, Vol. 1".

Following that sophomore year in the suites, Room 050 decided it was time to move away from campus life and move into their own apartments and eventually into a house. After moving out of the Morehouse Suites, Room 050 began adding members and while in their house became House Party legends, throwing some of the greatest house parties the Atlanta University Center has ever seen.

After many fun years, the time came for Room 050 to graduate and leave the years of undergraduate behind. Some went to pursue careers, others to pursue graduate and specialized degrees, some remained in Atlanta and others returned home, but through it all Room 050 has remained and grown bigger and stronger. Tired of living mundane lives stuck in mediocrity a conversation took place that inspired the beginning of an empire. Now with members from all over, with talents and skills that range from directing to writing to design to whatever, Room 050 has reassembled centrally in Los Angeles and come together with one common goal in mind: Bring you the finest entertainment today!
